<![CDATA[Ship repair yards involve outdoor and semi-enclosed work areas, heat-absorbing metal surfaces, welding activities, and fluctuating thermal conditions that may increase workers’ physiological strain. This study examined the effects of work climate, individual characteristics, and years of service on heat strain among 36 male workers at a ship repair yard in Surabaya, Indonesia, using a quantitative cross-sectional design with total sampling. Heat strain was assessed using the Physiological Strain Index based on body temperature and heart rate. The independent variables included hot work climate, age, body mass index, chronic disease status, water intake, medication use, and years of service. Data were analyzed using ordinal logistic regression. The simultaneous test showed that all independent variables collectively had a significant effect on heat strain (p = 0.000). The partial test indicated that hot work climate, age, body mass index, chronic disease status, and water intake were significant predictors, while medication use and years of service were not significant. The goodness-of-fit test confirmed that the model was suitable for the observed data. These findings highlight the need for integrated heat-strain prevention through heat exposure control, hydration management, health monitoring, and work-rest scheduling.]]>
