Abstract

The transformation of the digital financial system through blockchain technology has introduced a transaction system that emphasizes transparency, security, traceability, and efficiency through decentralized mechanisms. These principles are relevant to Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah (2:282), which regulates the ethics of financial transactions, particularly transaction documentation, clarity of information, witness testimony, and the protection of the rights of all parties involved. This study aims to analyze the concept of transaction transparency in Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah (2:282) based on the exegetical perspectives of M. Quraish Shihab and Ibn Kathir, as well as to examine its relevance to blockchain technology in cryptocurrency. This research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach through thematic Qur'anic interpretation (tafsir maudhu'i) and a comparative analysis of the two exegetes. The data sources include the Qur'an, Tafsir Al-Misbah, Tafsir Al-Qur'an Al-'Azhim, and various scholarly publications on blockchain and cryptocurrency. The findings reveal that Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah (2:282) embodies the principles of proper transaction documentation, information transparency, accountability, and dispute prevention in economic activities. M. Quraish Shihab emphasizes justice and the protection of rights, whereas Ibn Kathir highlights trustworthiness, prudence, and the importance of transaction evidence. These principles are consistent with the characteristics of blockchain technology, including immutable ledgers, transparent verification, and digital accountability. However, such compatibility does not automatically legitimize all cryptocurrency practices, as Sharia compliance, gharar (uncertainty), speculation, and public benefit (maslahah) remain essential considerations. Therefore, Qur'an Surah Al-Baqarah (2:282) may serve as an ethical foundation for developing a transparent, accountable, and just digital transaction ecosystem.
