Abstract

Medication adherence and self-management remain major challenges in chronic disease management, contributing to poor health outcomes and increased healthcare utilization. Although mobile health (mHealth) interventions have shown promise, evidence on locally developed applications in Indonesia remains limited. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the SAHABAT OBAT mobile health application in improving medication adherence, self-management, and usability among patients with chronic diseases. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest study was conducted among 30 adults with hypertension, diabetes mellitus, or heart disease who used the application for four weeks. Medication adherence, self-management, and usability were assessed using the MMAS-8, Partners in Health Scale, and System Usability Scale. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Medication adherence increased significantly (5.60±2.27 vs. 6.60±1.67; p=0.003; r=0.55), as did self-management (44.70±7.34 vs. 46.03±6.07; p=0.006; r=0.50). The application achieved an excellent usability score (SUS=91.68). Integrating reminders, education, and self-monitoring into a single mobile platform may strengthen patient engagement and support sustainable self-management. SAHABAT OBAT effectively improved medication adherence and self-management while demonstrating excellent usability, supporting its integration into primary healthcare for chronic disease management.
