Abstract

The quality of a friendship circle is a social factor that can shape students' academic behavior. A supportive circle may strengthen academic responsibility, yet intensive interaction within the circle may also create opportunities for academic procrastination. This study aimed to describe the quality of friendship circles, describe academic procrastination behavior, and analyze the relationship between these two variables among Civic Education students at the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Lambung Mangkurat University. This study used a quantitative correlational design. The participants were 160 students from the 2024 and 2025 cohorts selected through total sampling. Data were collected using Likert-scale questionnaires consisting of 15 items for friendship-circle quality and 12 items for academic procrastination. The instruments were declared valid, and the reliability test produced a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.894. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and Spearman's rho with SPSS 25 because the normality assumption was not fulfilled. The findings showed that the quality of students' friendship circles was in the high category (M = 58.66; SD = 7.49), and academic procrastination was also in the high category (M = 44.39; SD = 8.99). Spearman's correlation test indicated a significant positive relationship between friendship-circle quality and academic procrastination (rho = 0.250; p = 0.001). These findings indicate that high-quality friendship circles do not automatically reduce procrastination; students must balance social interaction and academic responsibility.
