<![CDATA[This study examines the use of Chinese proverbs (chéngyǔ) in the Chinese animated films Nezha 1: Birth of the Demon Child and Nezha 2: The Demon Child Churns the Sea, focusing on their classification types, meanings, and communicative purposes. The research addresses how proverbs are used in film dialogue and what functions they serve in conveying linguistic, cultural, and moral messages. This study employs a qualitative research design. Data were collected by documenting and recording the film dialogues. The analysis procedures included data collection, proverbs identification, organization, grouping, and classification based on their types, meanings, and usage purposes. The findings show that proverbs in both films are predominantly used to beautify language expression, transmit cultural and historical values, and achieve effective communication, while also conveying moral education to the audience. The use of proverbs enriches linguistic expression and enhances the narrative and emotional impact of the films. In Nezha 1: Birth of the Demon Child, 39 proverbs were identified, but only 36 were included in the classification of proverbs types. In Nezha 2: The Demon Child Churns the Sea, 57 proverbs were found, with 55 classified into proverbs types. In conclusion, the use of proverbs in these films plays a significant role in strengthening storytelling, enriching language use, and conveying cultural and moral values.
