<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the representation of the government in the Bocor Alus Politik podcast using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis. The study is motivated by the floods and landslides in Sumatra, which were interpreted differently in the Bocor Alus Politik podcast. This gave rise to a discourse conflict regarding whether the disasters should be interpreted as natural disasters or as man-made disasters. Using Norman Fairclough’s Critical Discourse Analysis, this study seeks to examine how the government is positioned and evaluated within the disaster discourse constructed through textual dimensions, discursive practices, and the underlying sociocultural practices. The method employed in this study is descriptive qualitative. Research data was obtained by transcribing the podcast “Bocor Alus Politik” titled “Government Incompetence and the Causes of Floods and Landslides in Sumatra” into text form. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study show that the analysis of text dimensions in the podcast yielded 35 data points divided into three main categories: representation (17 data points), relations (5 data points), and identity (13 data points). Meanwhile, discursive practices are also explained through three main categories: text production, text distribution, and text consumption. Sociocultural practices are also explained through three categories: situational, institutional, and social. It can be concluded that the podcast Bocor Alus Politik demonstrates that discourse on disasters is not neutral but is influenced by social and institutional practices that shape the public’s understanding of them.]]>
