This study is based on the low ability of fifth-grade students of SDN Denanyar 1 Jombang in solving problems in science material, especially the food chain. Researchers compared the effectiveness of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model and Teams Games Tournament (TGT) to improve students' problem-solving abilities. A quantitative approach with an intact group comparison design was applied, dividing 30 students into two treatment groups. Researchers used a 20-item problem-solving ability questionnaire, which had been validated and was reliable with a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.972. Data analysis was carried out using the Independent Sample t-Test using SPSS version 25 to compare post-test results accurately. The results showed that the PBL group's post-test average was 91.20, significantly higher than the TGT of 70.00, with a significance of 0.000 <0.05. This finding proves that the PBL model is more effective in improving students' problem-solving abilities than TGT. The implications of the study emphasize the importance of implementing a problem-based model to develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills in optimal science learning.
