This study examines deep reading patterns rather than just skimming among novel readers. Using the novels Aroma Karsa by Dee Lestari and Saman and Larung by Ayu Utami as case studies, the research focuses on the narrative styles of the two authors, the level of difficulty, and the impact on readers’ ability to understand and reflect on the content of the texts. This study aims to describe the informants’ reading experiences, as well as the resulting impact on literacy development. The approach used in this article is descriptive qualitative, focusing on the ability to understand novels, strategies employed, and the impact these have on the informants’ reading skills. Keywords: depth reading, novel comprehension, reading experience
