This study aims to describe students’ negotiation text writing skills before an after using a project-based learning model assisted byaudiovisual media, and to analyze the model’s effect on improving writing skills. The method used was a quantitative study with a one-group pretest-posstest design. The research subject were 40 tenth-grade students of SMA Negeri 3 Payakumbuh. The research instrument was a negotiation test writing performance on four indicators: structure, content, linguistic rules, and Enhancedd Spelling (EYD). The result showed an increase in the average score from 46,79 (Almost Sufficient) to 75,31 (More Than Sufficiant). Hypothesis testing showed t count>t table (5,04>1,99) at a 95% significance level. These result indicate that the use of a project-based learning model assisted by audiovisual media has a significant effect on student’s negotiation text writing skills. This model is worthy of being used as an alternative learning strategy that can increase student’s interest, understanding, and critical thinking skills in writing negotiation texts.
