Abstract

ABSTRACT This study aims to describe the role of parental guidance in adolescents' compliance with performing obligatory prayers. The research was motivated by the declining religious awareness among adolescents due to the influence of technological developments, peer environments, and the decreasing intensity of religious guidance within families. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving parents, adolescents, and supporting informants. The validity of the data was ensured through source triangulation and technique triangulation, while data analysis followed the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that parental guidance plays an important role in fostering adolescents' compliance with obligatory prayers through exemplary behavior, habituation, supervision, advice, and motivation. Exemplary behavior and habituation were identified as the most dominant forms of guidance in shaping adolescents' awareness and discipline in performing prayers. Furthermore, a religious family environment, parental support, and continuous guidance were found to be supporting factors, while excessive use of digital media, peer influence, and limited parental supervision became inhibiting factors. Therefore, parental guidance serves as a strategic element in strengthening adolescents' religious commitment and encouraging consistent observance of obligatory prayers. Keywords: parental guidance, compliance, obligatory prayers
