<![CDATA[This study discusses the function of the Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance in Pangkalan Kerinci District, Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province. The purpose of this research is to identify the historical development and functions of the Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance in the life of the Malay community in Pelalawan. This research used a qualitative method with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation involving five informants who understood the development of the Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance. The results of the study show that the Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance originated from Islamic cultural influences brought by traders and religious scholars from Johor. In its development, the dance adapted to the local culture of the Pelalawan community and eventually became one of the regional cultural identities. The Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance has four main functions, namely entertainment, social, cultural, and religious functions. Besides being performed in traditional ceremonies and community entertainment events, this dance also plays a role in preserving Malay culture through art studios, schools, and support from the local government. The use of social media has also contributed to introducing and preserving the Zapin Pecah Dua Belas Dance among the younger generation so that it remains recognized amid modern developments.]]>
