Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary school, especially on data processing material, is often still abstract, making it difficult for students to understand concepts meaningfully. The Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach offers a solution by placing real contexts as a starting point for learning, in line with the principles of Deep Learning that prioritizes Mindful, Meaningful, and Joyful dimensions. This article aims to describe the effectiveness of the RME approach in supporting deep learning on data processing material (frequency tables, pictograms, and bar charts) in Grade V elementary school, referring to the Deep Learning Implementation Plan (RPM) compiled based on the Merdeka Curriculum. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data sources in the form of RPM documents, learning activity designs, and pedagogical analysis of RME stage implementation in each meeting. The analysis results show that the RME approach encourages students to actively collect data from real environments, present data in various visual forms, and analyze and draw conclusions from the presented data. The RME stages which include understanding contextual problems, exploration, formalization, application, and evaluation are proven to support the achievement of deep learning objectives. Thus, integrating the RME approach into Grade V elementary school data processing learning can be an effective alternative for improving students' critical thinking and mathematical reasoning abilities.
