This study aimed to analyze differences in students’ interest in pursuing higher education based on parental autonomy support and socioeconomic status among eleventh-grade students at SMA Negeri 3 Batanghari. The study employed a comparative quantitative approach with a sample of 140 students selected through a total sampling technique. Data were collected using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using Two-Way ANOVA with the assistance of SPSS version 25. The results showed that: (1) there was a significant difference in students’ interest based on the level of parental autonomy support (F = 16.484; p = 0.000 < 0.05), where the high parental autonomy support group (mean = 119.906) had a significantly higher interest than the low parental autonomy support group (mean = 108.899); (2) there was no significant difference in students’ interest based on socioeconomic status, as indicated by the significance value (F = 0.637; p = 0.426 > 0.05); and (3) there was no interaction effect between parental autonomy support and socioeconomic status, as evidenced by the significance value (F = 1.256; p = 0.264 > 0.05). The Tukey HSD post hoc test revealed that a significant difference occurred only between groups A1B1 and A2B1 (p = 0.002 < 0.05), indicating that among students with low socioeconomic status, those who received high parental autonomy support demonstrated a greater interest in pursuing higher education than those who received low parental autonomy support.
