This research aims to determine the effect of implementing the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on students’ mathematical modeling skills as viewed from the perspective of self-confidence. This study was conducted because students’ mathematical modeling skills remain low, and due to the importance of using appropriate learning models and internal factors such as students’ self-confidence. This is a quantitative study using an experimental method with a factorial design. The study was conducted at SMP Negeri in Pekanbaru with the population consisting of all seventh-grade students, while the sample was selected using cluster random sampling, specifically class VII.3 as the experimental class and VII.1 as the control class. Data collection techniques included tests, questionnaires, and documentation. Data analysis techniques involved prerequisite tests (normality and homogeneity) as well as hypothesis testing using two-way ANOVA. The results of the study indicate that: (1) there is a difference in mathematical modeling ability between students learning with the PBL model and those in direct instruction , (2) there is a difference in mathematical modeling ability based on self-confidence levels , and (3) there is no interaction between the learning model and self-confidence on students’ mathematical modeling ability .
