Abstract

This study aims to analyze the phenomenon of innovative curriculum implementation at SD Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Talaga Bestari, Cikupa District, Tangerang Regency, Banten Province. The study was conducted to examine how curriculum innovation is implemented in elementary education to improve learning quality and respond to the challenges of the digital era. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, teachers, students, and parents. The findings reveal that the school has implemented an innovative curriculum through the integration of the national curriculum with school-based programs emphasizing project-based learning, digital literacy, technology-assisted instruction, and character education. The implementation is supported by visionary leadership, competent teachers, adequate facilities, a positive school culture, and active stakeholder participation. The study also identifies several challenges, including teachers’ adaptation to curriculum changes, administrative workload, learning assessment complexity, and the diversity of students’ learning characteristics. Despite these challenges, the innovative curriculum has positively influenced learning quality by increasing student engagement, motivation, critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration skills. In addition, the curriculum contributes to improved academic and non-academic achievement. The novelty of this study lies in its exploration of curriculum innovation practices in an Islamic elementary school that integrates national educational standards, character education, and digital learning strategies. The study concludes that continuous improvement, professional development, and stakeholder collaboration are essential for sustaining effective curriculum innovation and enhancing educational quality in elementary schools.
