This study aims to determine the effect of Socio Scientific Issue (SSI) based science learning using PhET Simulation media on students' critical thinking skills on energy material. This study uses a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. The subjects were 20 students of class VIII B of SMP Labschool UNESA 3. Data collection techniques used critical thinking ability tests, learning implementation observation sheets, and student response questionnaires. Data were analyzed using normality tests, paired sample t-tests, and N-Gain. The results showed that the data were normally distributed so the analysis was continued using paired sample t-tests. The test results showed a significance value of p <0.001 which indicated an increase in students' critical thinking skills after learning. The results of the N-Gain analysis showed that 16% of students were in the high category, 63% in the medium category, and 21% in the low category. The implementation of learning obtained a mode of 4 with a very good category, while student responses obtained a percentage of 88% with a very good category. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that Socio Scientific Issue (SSI)-based science learning using PhET Simulation media can improve students' critical thinking skills in energy topics.
