Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Elderly is identical with various decreases in health status, especially physical health. The emergence of pain is closely related to the receptors for the presence of pain receptors scattered on the skin and mucosa where the pain receptors respond when there is a stimulus or stimulation. Pain management usually uses pharmacology and non pharmacology. Red ginger has the effect of reducing pain sensation as well as improving the healing process of damaged tissue. Method: By using a literature review as a guide, search for research articles obtained from the internet using the Google Scholar website. Results: The analysis of 7 selected research articles showed that red ginger can reduce pain, including: the effect of compressing red ginger soaking water on gout reduction in the elderly with an average reduction of 2.13, the effect of warm red ginger compresses Pain in the elderly with rhematoid arthritis with an average pain reduction of 2.94, there is an effect on reducing the osteoarthritis pain scale with a pretest result of 4.50 and a posttest result of 2.78. Conclusion: The results of this literature review show that red ginger can reduce pain intensity. Red ginger contains essential oils, gingerol, oleoresin, water and oil which function to relieve pain. Red ginger has several benefits for reducing pain intensity in the elderly, including: osteoathiritis pain, gout athiritis, rhematoid athiritis, by doing a red ginger compress with a duration of 20 minutes when the pain is felt.
