Hypertension remains one of the foremost contributors to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide. Dietary-based preventive measures have increasingly emerged as a pivotal approach to blood pressure management, including the utilization of polyphenolic compounds such as catechins. Catechins have attracted considerable attention as a prospective nutritional intervention for blood pressure regulation. This literature review was undertaken to synthesize scientific evidence concerning the influence of catechins on blood pressure by examining studies retrieved from the PubMed and ScienceDirect databases using the keywords “catechin”, “blood pressure”, and “hypertension”. Findings derived from five selected studies indicate that catechins may facilitate blood pressure reduction through multiple physiological pathways, including the enhancement of nitric oxide bioavailability, improvement of endothelial performance, attenuation of oxidative stress and inflammatory responses, as well as modulation of neural regulatory mechanisms. Although the majority of investigations reported favorable outcomes, the magnitude of catechin efficacy appeared to be contingent upon dosage, molecular form, duration of intake, and participant characteristics. Consequently, the application of catechins as a potential nutritional strategy for hypertension management warrants careful dosage consideration and further validation through long-term investigations.
