<![CDATA[This study aims to examine the exemplary values embedded in the folklore of Arya Penangsang and its relevance as a source for local history education. As part of oral tradition, folklore serves as a medium for instilling and transmitting values across generations, particularly character values reflected in the story of Arya Penangsang. In this context, the theories of Collective Memory and Oral Tradition are employed within a qualitative approach combining library research, interviews, and the historical method. Data were collected through an examination of Babad Tanah Jawi, collections of folklore, scholarly journals, research articles, and other credible literature relevant to Arya Penangsang, folklore, local history, and history education. Qualitative data were obtained through interviews to explore oral traditions and collective memories while also examining character constructions that differ from those commonly represented in Javanese historiography. The findings indicate that the folklore of Arya Penangsang embodies five principal exemplary values: courage, leadership, loyalty and steadfastness, religiosity, and patriotism. The folklore is also relevant as a source for local history education, particularly in fostering character values and historical awareness, while encouraging students to recognize diverse perspectives in historical sources and reflect on values from the past in the context of contemporary life.]]>
