Abstract

The increasing demand for bird's eye pepper necessitates efforts to improve seed quality as an initial step toward enhancing crop productivity. However, studies on the use of bamboo root-derived PGPR as a seed-soaking treatment for bird's eye pepper remain limited, particularly regarding the optimal combination of PGPR concentration and soaking duration to improve seed germination and seedling growth, The study aims to determine the effect of the concentration and duration of soaking of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) on seed germination and seedling growth of cayenne pepper. The study was conducted in Muktiharjo Village, Margorejo District, Pati Regency, from May to June 2025, using a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of two factors and three replicates. The first factor is the concentration of PGPR, which consists of four levels, namely 0%, 20%, 40%, and 60%.  The second factor is the duration of soaking in PGPR, which consists of three levels, namely 3 hours, 6 hours, and 9 hours. The results showed that the concentration of PGPR affected seed germination at germination time parameters and affected seedling growth in the parameters of sprout emergence and seedling height 1 week after planting. The results showed that a 20% PGPR concentration produced the best performance in terms of germination time, shoot emergence time, and seedling height at one week after planting. A 20% PGPR concentration increased seedling height by 10% compared with the control. A PGPR soaking duration of 3 hours resulted in the best germination time and shoot emergence time. A significant interaction between PGPR concentration and soaking duration was observed for the germination time of  bird's eye pepper seeds.
