<![CDATA[This research addresses the Qur'anic readings (qira'at) and their impact on tafsir (exegesis) by discussing the definition of the qira'at, the origin of the science of qira'at, the reasons for the reciters' differences therein, the pillars of an accepted reading, and the impact of the Qur'anic readings on tafsir. The study includes an applied examination of diverse examples drawn from the different aspects of the ten mutawatir (mass-transmitted) readings, in accordance with the recognized criteria for judging readings and demonstrating their impact on exegesis. This is accomplished through the following steps: (1) writing out the Qur'anic verse under discussion in full and fully voweled according to the riwayah of Hafs from 'asim; (2) presenting the different readings of the verse by referring to the well-known books of qira'at; (3) clarifying the linguistic meaning of the readings by referring to lexicons and works of philology; (4) providing a general (ijmali) exegesis of the verse in question, in accordance with the principles laid down by scholars of tafsir for sound and permissible interpretation, drawing on both classical and modern works of tafsir; and (5) clarifying the exegetical relationship between the Qur'anic readings and identifying the meanings that each reading adds to the others.]]>
