The development of the national payment system requires banking institutions to improve efficiency, speed, and security in interbank transactions through the implementation of the National Clearing System of Bank Indonesia (SKNBI). This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of SKNBI procedures in improving interbank transaction efficiency at PT Bank Sumut Sharia Branch Medan, identify operational obstacles, and evaluate digital transformation readiness in supporting modern payment systems. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study method through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings indicate that SKNBI implementation at PT Bank Sumut Sharia Branch Medan has been conducted in accordance with operational standards and regulations, while significantly improving transaction efficiency through faster processing, reduced physical document dependency, and improved service accuracy. However, several challenges remain, including encoding errors, technological system disruptions, and human error factors that potentially affect operational effectiveness. This study confirms that clearing system effectiveness is determined not only by procedural compliance but also by digital infrastructure quality, human resource competence, and readiness for digital transformation. The implication is the need for operational modernization, stronger risk mitigation, and human resource capacity enhancement to strengthen Islamic banking competitiveness in the national payment system.
