Bengkulu Province is one of the regions with significant coal resource potential and is regionally located in the Bengkulu Basin. This basin is composed of Tertiary to Quaternary rock units, including the Hulusimpang, Seblat, Lemau, Simpangaur, and Bintunan Formations, which developed through a complex depositional and tectonic history. This study aims to assess the coal potential in Tanjung Raman Village, Taba Penanjung District, Central Bengkulu Regency based on regional geological conditions, stratigraphy, depositional environments, and geological factors that control coal availability. The study was conducted through analysis and synthesis of various scientific publications, geological maps, and previous research results related to the Bengkulu Basin. The results of the study indicate that the Lemau Formation, dated to the Middle–Late Miocene, is the main coal-bearing formation deposited in a swampy environment and produces several coal seams with varying thicknesses, even reaching more than 6 m. The coal potential in the Tanjung Raman area is also influenced by stratigraphic conditions and geological structures in the form of folds and faults that control the continuity of coal layers (Gafoer et al., 1992; Amin et al., 1994; Yulihanto et al., 1995). Based on these geological characteristics, Tanjung Raman Village has good prospects for coal resource development, while still paying attention to the principles of environmental management and sustainability.
