Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in 2022, approximately 1.25 billion people aged 15 and over worldwide were smokers. ASEAN countries contribute 10% of the world's total smokers, with Indonesia having the highest smoking prevalence, exceeding 50%. The Central Statistics Agency of DKI Jakarta Province (2024) reported that 22.56% of the population aged 15 years and older are smokers, with 13.39% of smokers in South Jakarta aged 18-24. Several factors influence smoking behavior, including the ease of obtaining cigarettes, peer conformity, family roles, and academic stress. These factors have been widely studied as significant determinants of smoking behavior, particularly among final-year university students who face educational and social pressures. Objective: This study aims to examine the factors influencing smoking behavior among final-year Mechanical Engineering students at UPN Veteran Jakarta. Methods: This study use a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design. A total of 70 respondents were selected through total sampling from the final-year students of the Mechanical Engineering Study Program at UPN Veteran Jakarta. Data were collected between April and May 2025 using a structured questionnaire consisting of validated items related to smoking behavior and its associated factors. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Results: There is a significant relationship between the ease of obtaining cigarettesĀ (p= 0,008), peer conformity (p = 0,000), family role (p = 0,018), and academic stress (p = 0,000) and smoking behavior among final-year students. Conclusion: The results indicate that all four factors significantly correlate with smoking behavior, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to reduce smoking behavior among university students.
