The Community Empowerment Learning–Student Community Service Program (KKN-PPM) aims to improve the kitab kuning literacy of students at Pondok Pesantren Baitil Ma’mur Surowono through training and mentoring using the sorogan method. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a participatory model, in which KKN students are directly involved in the learning process of the santri. The main problems identified in the field include low fluency in reading unvowelled Arabic texts (Arabic gundul) and the limited ability of santri to apply Nahwu and Shorof rules in an applicative manner. The results indicate that intensive sorogan mentoring is able to improve reading fluency, accuracy of i‘rab, and the self-confidence of santri in presenting kitab kuning readings. In addition to its impact on cognitive aspects, the sorogan method also functions as a means of fostering mental discipline, adab, and character development within the pesantren learning tradition. The use of the Amtsilati book as a supporting medium is proven to facilitate beginner santri in understanding Arabic language structures in a practical way. Therefore, the sorogan method, when contextualized appropriately, remains relevant as a pesantren learning model in responding to the challenges of contemporary Islamic education.
