Abstract

The low ability of waste sorting among elementary school students is a serious problem that impacts environmental health. Knowledge and attitude are determinants that influence a person's ability to carry out waste sorting behavior. This study aims to analyze the relationship between knowledge and attitude with waste sorting ability in grades 3, 4, and 5 of SDN 2 Sukorame. The method in this study used an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. A sample of 120 students was taken using a simple random sampling technique from a total population of 174 students. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire, an attitude questionnaire, and an observation sheet of waste sorting ability. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that most students had insufficient knowledge (54.2%), sufficient attitude (41.7%), and inability (70.8%). The results of the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between knowledge and waste sorting ability (p = 0.000) and between attitude and waste sorting ability (p = 0.000). In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes and students' waste sorting skills. Good knowledge and positive attitudes play a crucial role in improving waste sorting skills. Further research using multimodal educational interventions is recommended to simultaneously improve all three domains.
