Mangrove Rhizosphere Actinomycetes as Biocontrol Agents Against Fusarium oxysporum Phenotypic Characterization and Inhibitory Activity

Abstract

Crop production (quality and quantity) can decrease due to F. oxysporum. The use of natural biofungicides is needed to overcome this problem because synthetic chemical fungicides have negative side effects. This study aims to isolate and characterize mangrove rhizosphere Actinomycetes bacteria and see their inhibitory ability against F. oxysporum. This type of research is experimental with exploratory descriptive. The study began with sampling, bacterial isolation, macroscopic and microscopic morphological observations, inhibitory ability tests, biochemical tests and ended with data analysis with a non-parametric statistical test, namely Kruskal Wallis. The results showed that all isolates had inhibitory abilities against F. oxysporum, but there were two isolates that had the highest inhibitory values, namely ACT2 & ACT4 (31%) in the medium category. Both are Actinomycetes from the genus Streptomyces as seen from macroscopic, microscopic, and biochemical test characteristics. Due to this inhibitory ability, Actinomycetes have the potential to be developed into environmentally friendly, natural biofungicides derived from local resources to address problems caused by F. oxysporum.
