Abstract

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common among adolescent girls and are strongly associated with anatomical characteristics and inadequate genital hygiene practices. Digital educational interventions may improve preventive health behaviors by enhancing knowledge, attitudes, and hygiene practices. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a genital hygiene e-guide on knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to urinary tract infection prevention among adolescent girls. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest study was conducted among 32 female students in a senior high school selected through purposive sampling in Blora Regency, Indonesia. Participant received a web-based genital hygiene e-guide, and knowledge, attitudes, and practices were assessed using a structured questionnaire before and after the intervention. Paired t-tests were performed with a significance level of p<0.05, 95% confidence interval, and effect sizes were calculated using Cohen's d. Following the intervention, significant improvements were observed in knowledge (47.19±8.13 vs. 94.38±6.19), attitude (51.75±7.39 vs. 91.16±3.09), and practice (49.38±6.19 vs. 91.72±2.79) (all (p<0.001). Very large effect sizes were observed for knowledge (d=6.53), attitudes (d=6.96), and practices (d=7.98). In conclusion, the genital hygiene e-guide is highly effective in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practices among adolescent girls. This digital-based intervention has strong potential as a promotive and preventive strategy to reduce the risk of UTIs and can be utilized as an accessible health education tool in school settings. Further controlled studies with larger populations are warranted to confirm these findings.
