The Role of Bank Syariah Matahari in Economic Empowerment to Improve Human Resources According to the Principles of Good Corporate Governance

Introduction: In the context of economic uncertainty and increasing natural disaster risks, Islamic financial institutions are expected to play a strategic role in strengthening community economic resilience and improving the quality of human resources. This study aims to examine the strategic role of Bank Syariah Matahari in community economic empowerment, with particular emphasis on the implementation of Good Corporate Governance (GCG) principles as a foundation for sustainable and sharia-compliant empowerment. Methods: This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach to analyze the implementation of economic empowerment programs, adaptive financing schemes, post-disaster financing restructuring, and community-based empowerment initiatives conducted by Bank Syariah Matahari. The analysis focuses on the relationship between economic empowerment, GCG principles, and human resource development within the context of Islamic banking). Results: The analysis indicates that community economic empowerment through adaptive financing, financial inclusion, business development assistance, and community-based programs has an important role in strengthening household economic capacity and supporting the improvement of human resource quality. The implementation of GCG principles, particularly transparency, accountability, responsibility, independence, and fairness, strengthens the effectiveness and sustainability of these empowerment initiatives. The integration of sharia values emphasizing justice, partnership, and social benefit further enhances the bank's role as an agent of economic recovery and community development. Conclusion and suggestion: Bank Syariah Matahari has the potential to strengthen its strategic role as an agent of community economic empowerment by integrating GCG principles with inclusive financing and human resource development programs. Sustainable collaboration among Islamic banks, communities, government institutions, and other stakeholders is recommended to develop adaptive empowerment strategies, particularly for communities affected by economic uncertainty and natural disasters.
