Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic health disorder with rising cases, including among adolescents, heavily influenced by lifestyle and knowledge about the disease. This study aimed to examine the relationship between diabetes mellitus knowledge levels and lifestyle among female adolescents at Pondok Pesantren Bani Syihab Malang. The research employed an analytical design to test correlations using a cross-sectional approach, involving 46 respondents selected through simple random sampling. Diabetes mellitus knowledge was measured using the Diabetes Knowledge Questionnaire-24 (DKQ-24), while lifestyle was assessed with the Health Promoting Lifestyle Profile II (HPLP-II). The findings revealed that nearly all adolescent female students (89.1%) had poor knowledge of diabetes mellitus, while the majority (60.9%) exhibited moderate or unhealthy lifestyle categories. Data analysis using the Spearman test yielded a correlation coefficient of 0.448 and significance level of p=0.002 (<0.05). The analysis confirmed a significant relationship between diabetes mellitus knowledge and lifestyle, indicating that improved knowledge leads to healthier lifestyle practices among these female adolescents in the pesantren. The findings emphasize the need to enhance health education to support healthy lifestyle patterns among adolescents in the pesantren.
