Abstract

Acute Respiratory Infection (ARI) is one of the common health problems among toddlers. Symptoms such as cough and respiratory discomfort may affect children's comfort and health status. One non-pharmacological supportive approach is the administration of lime juice combined with sweet soy sauce. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of lime and soy sauce administration in reducing ARI symptoms among toddlers in the working area of Koncara Public Health Center in 2026. A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design involving an intervention group and a control group was used. The sample consisted of 40 toddlers, including 20 respondents in the intervention group and 20 respondents in the control group. ARI symptoms were assessed using an observation sheet. Data were analyzed descriptively and statistically using the Shapiro-Wilk, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney tests at a significance level of p<0.05. The mean ARI symptom score in the intervention group decreased from 2.40±0.503 before intervention to 1.60±0.754 after intervention, with a mean reduction of 0.80 and p=0.000. In the control group, the mean score decreased from 2.30±0.470 to 1.85±0.813, with a mean reduction of 0.45 and p=0.020. The comparison of changes between groups showed a significant difference with p<0.001. The administration of lime and soy sauce was effective as a supportive intervention for reducing ARI symptoms among toddlers in this study. Its use should consider the child's clinical condition and should not replace assessment or treatment by health professionals.
