Abstract

Despite the numerous dialects that exist within one and the same language of a particular language community, there is always a particular dialect seen and accepted by all as the central dialect for everyone and spoken by all. The learning of French language pronunciation has been a difficult task among French language students in the Nigerian Universities. Given that the new phase of technology experienced in the world today in the area of foreign language learning methodology has not yet reached every nook and cranny, especially in Nigeria, we do not have a better alternative but to take advantage of recorded authentic instructional materials and films to make easy the learning and pronunciation of French as a foreign language in our Nigerian Universities. In this article we have studied the difficulties encountered in the learning of pronunciation of French as a foreign language in our Universities/Higher Institutions of learning. We also took a look at the existing theories on acquisition of proper pronunciation in learning of French as a foreign language as well the instructional means of teaching pronunciation of French through recorded materials. We have also presented instructional procedures to be followed in order to achieve proper and acceptable oral production of French language through the use of recorded instructional materials in French.
