Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has transformed the ways in which Indonesian Generation Z acquires religious knowledge, engages in religious practices, and cultivates religiosity and spirituality. Social media, video platforms, podcasts, and religious apps have emerged as new spaces that expand access to information while shifting the locus of religious authority from formal institutions to a more participatory digital ecosystem. This study aims to analyze how Generation Z interprets spirituality, how digital media shapes religiosity and spirituality, and how Glock and Stark’s five dimensions of religiosity relate to the formation of spirituality in the digital era. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach utilizing a library research method. Data were gathered from scholarly books, reputable journal articles, conference proceedings, and academic documents, and were analyzed using content analysis and thematic analysis based on Glock and Stark’s five dimensions of religiosity: belief, religious practice, religious experience, religious knowledge, and behavioral consequences. The findings indicate that digital media transforms all dimensions of religiosity through digital religious learning, hybrid religious practices, more personal and reflective spiritual experiences, and the reinforcement of religiously grounded social behavior. Conversely, digitalization also presents challenges such as the fragmentation of religious authority, disinformation, and performative religiosity. Theoretically, this study extends the relevance of Glock and Stark’s theory by developing the Digital Spiritual Integration Model (DSIM) and the concept of "Networked Spirituality" as a conceptual framework to explain the formation of spirituality among Generation Z in digital society.
