Analysis of Flood Control on the Lusi River at the Dumpil Weir, Ngaringan Subdistrict, Grobogan Regency

Abstract

Flooding along the Lusi River is an annual phenomenon that significantly impacts residential areas and agricultural land, necessitating appropriate management strategies. This study focuses on evaluating the flood control system on the Lusi River, specifically the Dumpil Dam infrastructure located in Ngaringan District, Grobogan Regency. The primary objective is to assess whether the current dam capacity is adequate to reduce the planned flood discharge. From a hydrological perspective, this study processed precipitation data over the past ten years using the Thiessen Polygon method to obtain the average regional rainfall. The frequency distribution was determined through a comparative study of the Gumbel, Log Normal, and Normal methods. Meanwhile, the planned flood discharge estimate was calculated using the empirical approach of Melchior, Haspers, and Weduwen. The research findings indicate that the total flow capacity of the Dumpil Dam reaches 1,979.84 m³/s, a combination of the main crest discharge (1,827.36 m³/s) and the drainage hole (152.48 m³/s). Compared to the 50-year return period (Q50) design flood load of 1,079.26 m³/second calculated using the Haspers method, the dam structure is categorized as SAFE. This is because the existing capacity is still much greater than the predicted flood discharge. As a preventative measure, regular sediment removal and maintenance of the floodgates are recommended to maintain the dam's stable performance in the future.
