Abstract

Human behavior and cognitive patterns are significantly shaped by the environment. One psychological construct influenced by this context is the locus of control. This study aimed to compare the orientation of Levenson's locus of control components (Internal, Chance, and Powerful Others) across populations living in urban, suburban, and rural areas. This study employed a non-probability sampling technique involving 392 participants aged 18–40 years. Data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) via JASP. The results indicated no significant differences in the Internal and Chance Locus of Control components. However, a significant difference was found in the Powerful Others Locus of Control component. Post-hoc analysis revealed significant disparities between the urban and suburban groups, as well as between urban and rural groups, whereas no significant difference was observed between suburban and rural groups. These findings imply the necessity of tailoring psychological interventions based on residential background to enhance the effectiveness of individual treatment.
