Climate change and rapid urbanization have increased flood risks, including in school environments that require effective disaster preparedness strategies. Flood events can disrupt educational activities and threaten the safety of students, teachers, and school infrastructure. Purpose: This study aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based Flood Early Warning System (EWS) that enables real-time environmental monitoring and provides automatic early warning notifications to support school disaster mitigation. Methods/Study design/approach: This research employs a system development approach by designing and implementing an IoT-based monitoring prototype. The proposed system integrates water level sensors, soil moisture sensors, and rainfall intensity sensors connected to a microcontroller as the main processing unit. Environmental data collected from sensors are transmitted through an internet connection to a central server and visualized using a digital dashboard. The system also applies an automatic notification mechanism through SMS or instant messaging applications when environmental parameters exceed predetermined flood risk thresholds. Result/Findings: The research results show the development of an IoT-based flood EWS prototype capable of monitoring environmental parameters, transmitting real-time data, displaying monitoring information through a digital dashboard, and generating automatic warning notifications based on detected flood conditions. The prototype demonstrates the potential to support faster information delivery and improve preparedness in school disaster management. Novelty/Originality/Value: The novelty of this research lies in the integration of multi-parameter environmental monitoring using IoT technology specifically designed for school environments. The combination of sensor-based monitoring, real-time data visualization, and automated warning notifications provides a practical approach to improving preventive flood mitigation and supporting rapid response actions in educational environments.
