Abstract

Pathological vaginal discharge is one of the reproductive health problems frequently experienced by adolescent girls and requires early attention. Lack of knowledge and inappropriate attitudes in maintaining reproductive organ hygiene can increase the risk of pathological vaginal discharge. Reproductive health education is one of the promotive and preventive efforts that can be implemented to improve understanding and develop positive attitudes among adolescent girls in preventing pathological vaginal discharge. This study aimed to determine the effect of reproductive health education on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls regarding the prevention of pathological vaginal discharge at SMPN 3 Pariaman. This study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The population in this study consisted of all adolescent girls at SMPN 3 Pariaman in the 2025/2026 academic year, totaling 156 students. The sample consisted of 38 respondents selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research instruments included a knowledge questionnaire, an attitude questionnaire, reproductive health education media, and a Health Education Session Plan. Data analysis was conducted using univariate and bivariate analyses with the Wilcoxon test because the data were not normally distributed. The results showed that before receiving reproductive health education, most respondents had poor knowledge, with 19 respondents (50.0%), while after the education intervention, most respondents demonstrated good knowledge, with 27 respondents (71.1%). Regarding attitudes, before the education intervention, most respondents had negative attitudes, with 22 respondents (57.9%), whereas after the intervention, most respondents showed positive attitudes, with 31 respondents (81.6%). The Wilcoxon test results indicated a p-value of 0.000 for both knowledge and attitude variables. It can be concluded that reproductive health education has an effect on the knowledge and attitudes of adolescent girls regarding the prevention of pathological vaginal discharge at SMPN 3 Pariaman. Keywords: reproductive health education, knowledge, attitudes, adolescent girls, pathological vaginal discharge.
