Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of the English Quarantine Program at SMAIQu Al-Bahjah in improving students' English-speaking skills and their motivation to speak English. The research problem addressed in this study is: To what extent does the English Quarantine Program significantly impact the improvement of students’ speaking abilities and motivation within the context of English language learning in a school environment? A mixed-methods approach was employed, involving pre-test and post-test assessments, motivation questionnaires, and interviews with English tutors. The results showed a general improvement in speaking skills, with 48% of students demonstrating increased post-test scores, although some showed no change or a slight decline. The motivation questionnaire revealed moderate levels of intrinsic motivation and self-confidence, low anxiety, and low extrinsic motivation among students. Notably, 70% of respondents agreed that the program was effective. Qualitative data from tutor interviews confirmed observable improvements in students' speaking abilities and willingness to use English, particularly among more disciplined participants. These findings suggest that the English Quarantine Program is an effective model for enhancing both language proficiency and student motivation, though improvements in external motivational strategies and student discipline are recommended.
