This study aims to examine the effectiveness of adaptive artificial intelligence (AI) assistants in improving students' explanatory text writing skills and supporting the achievement of the 8 Dimensions of Graduate Profiles in accordance with Permendikdasmen No. 10 of 2025. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study involved 30 grade IX students at SMP Negeri 2 Kroya, a suburban school with limited digital infrastructure. The AI assistant used is ChatGPT (OpenAI), which provides adaptive feedback at every stage of writing. Data were collected through participant observation, pre- and post-intervention document analysis, semi-structured interviews, and group reflection over eight weeks. The results show that AI serves as an effective scaffolding that helps students identify structural weaknesses, improve cause-and-effect relationships, and improve argumentative coherence. Direct quotes from students and teachers show a shift in thinking patterns, from simply asking for answers to using AI as a reflective partner to examining the logic and structure of writing. The "collaborative in process, independent in presentation" learning strategy has been shown to improve social interaction and encourage academic independence, especially in the revision process. AI interventions also strengthen various dimensions of graduate profiles, including critical reasoning, creativity, communication, collaboration, integrity, and technological prowess. Other findings reveal implementation challenges such as limited internet connections and digital capability disparities, which are addressed through offline support and heterogeneous clustering. This study confirms that adaptive AI can be an effective cognitive and social mediator in the context of schools with limited resources, as long as its integration is designed pedagogically, ethically, and contextually. This research makes an empirical contribution to the development of AI-based learning models in suburban areas and recommends teacher training and infrastructure support as a prerequisite for sustainable implementation.
