<![CDATA[Background: This article examines how Muslim couples with disabilities reconstruct the meaning of sakinah family within the everyday realities of marriage in Palu, Indonesia. Rather than treating sakinah merely as a normative religious ideal, the study approaches it as a lived socio-legal practice shaped by bodily limitations, emotional negotiation, social stigma, economic vulnerability, and religious meaning-making. Purpose: The article argues that couples with disabilities do not simply reproduce conventional models of Islamic family life, but actively reinterpret marital roles, responsibilities, and expectations through resilience practices. Methods: Using a qualitative socio-legal approach, the study draws on field observation, interviews, and documentation to explore how couples manage domestic responsibilities, communication, emotional support, and social exclusion. Results: The findings show that family resilience emerges through four interconnected processes: reconstructing sakinah beyond physical perfection, negotiating marital roles under disability, transforming hardship into religious meaning, and relying on inclusive community support while confronting structural barriers. These processes demonstrate that sakinah is not a fixed condition achieved through ideal bodily capacity, but a relational and adaptive achievement produced through mutual care, patience, communication, and shared responsibility. Implication: The article contributes to Islamic family law, disability studies, and socio-legal scholarship by proposing the concept of inclusive sakinah as a framework for understanding how marginalized Muslim families transform normative legal-religious ideals into lived practices of justice, dignity, and resilience. Originality: repositioning marriage registration as a site of legal pluralism and ethical governance in a Muslim-majority legal system.
