Abstract

Identifying the need for condensing academic texts into a concise formatIdentifying the need for condensing academic texts into a concise formatThe Kayutangan Corridor in Malang City is a strategic cultural heritage area with significant potential as a heritage tourism destination. However, accessibility principles and inclusive design in this area have not fully met the needs of all users, particularly people with disabilities, the elderly, and children. This study analyzes the application of inclusive Universal Design elements in the Kayutangan Corridor public space and formulates improvement recommendations to promote a more equitable and accessible environment. A qualitative approach was applied through direct field observation and document study, using descriptive-comparative analysis based on the seven Universal Design principles. Observations reveal that key design elements—including guiding paths, pedestrian lanes, ramps, crossing facilities, and seating—do not meet established accessibility standards. Identified barriers include non-linear and disconnected guiding paths, pedestrian walks obstructed by street vendors, and the absence of ramps and disability-specific crossing buttons. This study recommends comprehensive improvements to physical accessibility elements, user-friendly materials, and active disability community involvement in planning. These findings are intended as a reference for urban designers, local governments, and stakeholders in developing inclusive and sustainable heritage areas.
