This research aims to design and develop a food ordering system based on the Internet of Things (IoT) in the Spirit Canteen of PNJ, utilizing a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+, QR code scanner, thermal printer, and integrated buzzer. The primary issue addressed is the absence of an efficient digital system for food ordering directly from the customer’s table, leading to long queues, ordering errors, and limited transparency in order tracking. The system includes a web-based ordering and monitoring platform connected to the IoT devices, enabling a real-time ordering experience. The development follows a software engineering approach using prototyping methodology. Testing was conducted through blackbox testing, load testing using k6, and user satisfaction evaluation via the System Usability Scale (SUS). Results showed the system operated reliably under a load of 10 simultaneous users without failures. The SUS scores obtained were 81 from buyers and 76.25 from sellers, which are classified as grade A and B respectively on the Sauro-Lewis curved grading scale, indicating high user satisfaction. In addition, the response times of the buzzer and thermal printer averaged around 3 seconds. The system provides benefits such as improved efficiency in ordering and payment processes, enhanced order transparency, and overall better canteen service operations. Future enhancements are recommended, including the implementation of data security features, order completion time estimation, transaction reporting dashboards, and system testing under a larger user scale to ensure readiness for full-scale deployment.
