Abstract

The performance of irrigation networks serves as an indicator of management that encourages the optimization of water use in an effective and efficient manner to meet increasing demands. However, in practice, several problems are still encountered, such as uneven water distribution, suboptimal infrastructure conditions, and institutional management that has not functioned optimally. Therefore, assessing the Irrigation System Performance Index (IKSI) is important, one of which is through collecting IKSI form data for each irrigation area in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) to obtain a quantitative value of irrigation system performance. This study aims to assess the IKSI in one of the irrigation areas in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, namely the Gamping Irrigation Area. The method used in this study includes data collection through field observations, interviews with related stakeholders, and data processing based on IKSI parameters, which consist of physical infrastructure, crop productivity, supporting facilities, personnel organization, documentation, and the institutional condition of Water User Associations (P3A). The results indicate that the performance of the irrigation system in the Gamping Irrigation Area falls into the good category, with several parameters such as physical infrastructure and crop productivity in optimal condition. However, some parameters show relatively low values, such as documentation and institutional aspects, which require improvement. Therefore, improvement efforts can be carried out through enhancing documentation, strengthening P3A institutions, as well as maintaining and rehabilitating irrigation networks to improve overall system performance.
