Teaching the Qur'an currently faces significant challenges, particularly in aligning classical and contemporary approaches to remain relevant to modern educational needs. A lack of deep understanding regarding the principles of Qur'anic instruction often leads to ineffective implementation. This study aims to identify the principles of Qur'anic teaching from the perspectives of both classical and contemporary commentators (mufassir), namely Al-Qurthubi and Wahbah Az-Zuhaili. Using a qualitative approach and literature review method, this research analyzes Al-Qurthubi's Al-Jāmi‘ li Aḥkām al-Qur’ān and Wahbah Az-Zuhaili's Al-Tafsīr al-Munīr. The focus is directed toward the interpretation of key verses, such as Al-Baqarah: 151, Al-Jumu’ah: 2, Al-‘Alaq: 1-5, and At-Tahrim: 6. The results indicate that the classical approach emphasizes Sharia teachings and legal rulings, while the contemporary approach highlights moral and social values. The integration of these two approaches offers a comprehensive Qur'anic education model that blends legal, spiritual, and social foundations. This research contributes guidelines for applying Qur'anic teaching principles that are relevant to modern educational requirements.
