The widespread dissemination of hoaxes in the digital and social media era has become a serious challenge to social integration and national morality. This study aims to examine the interpretation of hoaxes within the local Qur'an exegesis of the Indonesian Archipelago, specifically through the lens of Tafsir Ayat Suci Lenyepaneun by the modernist Sundanese exegete, Moch. Emon Hasim (1916–2009). Utilizing a descriptive-analytical method with a local exegesis approach oriented toward adabi ijtima'i (socio-cultural), this study classifies verses related to false information based on UNESCO's categories (misinformation, disinformation, and mal-information). The findings indicate that Moch. Emon Hasim interprets hoaxes as false news (ifk or beja bohong) that is strictly prohibited by religion as it triggers chaos (fitnah) and regret. As a preventive solution, he proposes scripture-based methodological steps aligned with Sundanese local wisdom, such as the concept of Pék Following heula (tabayyun), as well as cultural values like Cageur, Bageur, Pinter, Bener, Singer, and Silih Asah, Silih Asuh, Silih Asih. This study underscores the importance of contextualizing local exegesis in addressing contemporary social issues in the digital disinformation era.
