Tikus Island is a small island located in the waters of the Indian Ocean in the sea area of Bengkulu Province, approximately ±10 nautical miles from Bengkulu City. Currently, Tikus Island has developed into a marine tourism destination that is very popular with the people of Bengkulu and from outside Bengkulu. This is an advantage for the community and the Bengkulu City government, but on the other hand, it is a threat to the sustainability of the current ecosystem. The study aims to identify the potential resources and strategic issues of utilizing the waters of Tikus Island so that the potential of the Tikus Island area can be managed optimally and on target. The methods used in this study are literature studies, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), interviews, and direct observations, while data analysis used qualitative descriptive analysis methods. The study results indicate that the potential of existing resources such as coral reef ecosystems, vegetation, waters, fisheries, and tourist attractions have provided results for the welfare of the surrounding community. Still, the utilization development, and management of the potential resources of Tikus Island in the future require a sustainable approach to maintain ecological and economic functions. Therefore, good management is needed with environmentally friendly principles/ecotourism for the sustainability of the ecosystem.
