<![CDATA[From 2015 to 2024, capture fisheries production in the waters of Sukamara Regency exhibited fluctuating trends, with a notable decline over the past seven years and the lowest production recorded in 2021. Although production increased again alongside an expansion in the fishing fleet, the number of active fishermen did not show a corresponding rise. This study aimed to examine the effect of the number of fishing vessels and fishermen on fish production, and estimate the Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) and the level of fish resource utilization. A time-series analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression to assess the influence of fleet size and number of fishermen on capture fisheries production. The Schaefer surplus production model was applied to estimate MSY and utilization rates. The results showed that neither the number of fishing vessels nor the number of fishermen significantly affected fish production, with the regression equation Y = 1.2477 – 0.6258 X₁ – 0.7664 X₂. The Catch Per Unit Effort (CPUE) exhibited a downward trend from 2015 to 2021. In 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024, total catches exceeded the MSY limit by 3,186,055 kg, indicating overexploitation. Furthermore, the utilization rate and fishing capacity of small-scale fisheries were classified as overexploited and overcapacity, respectively. Strengthening the role of marine and fisheries institutions, along with the adoption of environmentally friendly fishing gear, is crucial for the sustainable management of fishery resources in Sukamara Regency waters.]]>
