Mediation is a mandatory dispute resolution mechanism in divorce cases before the Religious Courts in Indonesia. However, studies focusing on the role of mediators, particularly in implementing the principle of neutrality, remain limited. This research employed an empirical legal method with a qualitative approach through interviews with mediators at the Yogyakarta Religious Court. The findings reveal that mediators act as communication facilitators and conflict intermediaries throughout the mediation process. Furthermore, neutrality is implemented through impartiality, equal treatment of both parties, and the protection of confidential information, which helps build trust and support the success of mediation. This study highlights mediator neutrality as a key factor in enhancing the effectiveness of divorce mediation.
