Abstract

Introduction: Family support is an important factor in helping patients cope with health problems and reducing perceived burdens. In Family-Centered Care (FCC), families are involved in patient care and decision-making together with health professionals. FCC is expected to improve self-efficacy and quality of life in hemodialysis patients. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effect of the Family-Centered Care method on self-efficacy and quality of life among patients undergoing hemodialysis therapy. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental pre-test-post-test design with a control group. A total of 118 respondents participated in the study. Self-efficacy was measured using the General Self-Efficacy Scale (10 items), while quality of life was measured using the KDQOL SF-36 questionnaire (36 questions). The SF-36 has been validated and widely used to assess health-related quality of life in patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Reliability testing showed a Cronbach’s α value of 0.78.Results: The intervention group showed a significant improvement in self-efficacy (p = 0.001). Quality of life also improved significantly (p = 0.000). Both results were below the 0.05 significance level, indicating that the FCC intervention had a significant positive effect on hemodialysis patients. Conclusions: Family-Centered Care significantly improved self-efficacy and quality of life in hemodialysis patients and can be recommended as an effective nursing intervention approach.
