<![CDATA[Modern Indonesian poetry has experienced major developments since the 20th century, marked by changes from old poetry bound by rhyme rules to modern poetry that is freer in expressing meaning and language, especially since the Generation of 45. In this development, Dodong Djiwapraja appeared as a poet who combined humanitarian reflection, social criticism, spirituality, and modern aesthetics in his works, but his work has rarely received attention in Indonesian literary studies. Therefore, this study was conducted to examine the role of Dodong Djiwapraja in the development of Indonesian poetry, with the aim of knowing the biography and role of Dodong Djiwapraja in the development of Indonesian poetry in 1948-1973 using historical research methods that include heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The findings show that Dodong Djiwapraja is a writer and intellectual who was formed from a Sundanese rural background, Islamic values, and historical experience. Dodong Djiwapraja's poetry has shown a long and gradual development since its inception in 1948 until it reached aesthetic maturity in the early 1970s. This journey demonstrates a continuous shift in thematic and aesthetic orientation, but rather interconnected in a consistent line of development.
